So apparently this journal is all about my trips to the cinema these days, but this one definitely warrants it.
Inception is an absolutely breathtaking movie. After a few big CG tricks at the start it settles into some seriously incredible and in some ways surprisingly understated action sequences, but you're really not going to see this film for the spectacle, it's all about the mental workout.
It's not too hard to follow the plot, but following what people are saying is pretty much impossible the first time round. The beauty of the script and the directing is that it doesn't matter. They'll explain a rule of the world and you'll get the gist of it like you did watching Shakespeare at school, but a few minutes later they'll give you an example of that rule in action and the half understood words will kick into place guided by the fantastic atmosphere and suddenly you'll understand what was going on and feel like the smartest person in the room.
This film's all about the subconscious and the way it plays with yours as you watch it, both as part of the plot and on a far more meta level, is just brilliant.
Oh, and that ending. Muah, beautiful.
Gen Con next week. What will my dA journal hear about it? Probably the films I watch on the plane. Fingers crossed for Iron Man 2 and Kick Ass.
Ps, fangirls, you can keep Arthur. Eames <3
